Nope, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. Or the face of my blog, even though it may appear that way. I'm back with great news.

Livin' Easy in the Summertime

Summer Yard Work

It’s hot today. Although I can’t complain because we’ve had great
summer weather so far. Though the combination of the constant rain along with very hot sunny days in between has made everything grow like crazy.

And the frogs have gone wild. Here’s a little guy that scared the daylights out of me. I stuck my shovel in a pile of dirt, and out he hopped. Right at me. Yes, I screamed like a girl. Eewww!

We have a bit of land we're working to clean up so Lucy has a larger place to play and chase toys. And so we can play yard games when family comes to visit. I’ve been picking up sticks and hacking weeds when it’s not raining. I’m planning on being out there again tomorrow.

The garden is almost finished. I’ll be laying down some cloth and mulching this weekend so you’ll get some more pictures next week.

I think every girl should have a pair of steel-toed work boots and some well-worn leather gloves. And wear them with her pants tucked in. That’s to keep out the nasty chiggers. They came as an awful surprise earlier in the year. I don’t care what I look like; I’m not getting them again. Besides, don’t you think this just screams sexy?

This was during the grab-a-cold-one-I'm-tired phase of yard work. Have a lovely weekend folks!

My Favorite Romance Trope

Romance tropes are many, and yet, so few. They are used again and again, because they are timeless. They can be refashioned or refurbished to fit any time frame. And here we are, year after year, sucking them up like oxygen. Why? Because we love them! There doesn’t have to be another reason, folks.

 

Here’s a list of the most often used. At the end I’ll tell you my favorite if you tell me yours.

 

• Best friends turned lovers
• May/December
• Secret crush
• Love triangle
• Secret baby
• Arranged marriage
• Enemies turned lovers
• Governess to wife
• Reformed rake
• Reunion or reunited lovers
• Secret love
• One character physically unattractive/disabled
• Best friends little sister

 

Actually I have three. Enemies to lovers would be number one because sparks fly in these. I love the challenges this presents to the characters. Reformed rakes are awesome - who doesn’t love the soft side of a hardass? And lastly, one character physically unattractive/disabled because these characters have amazing hidden strengths and the trials they must overcome to find love make for a fantastic story.

Ten Quickies with Sutton

Today we're adding something a little different here at Fox Tales. For guest authors, they can choose to just answer ten quickies, instead of writing a guest post. For those of you who do blog tours, it's our effort to ease the brain strain of constantly trying to think up something new. Plus it will still give all of our lovely readers a feel for the author.

It wouldn't be fair if I didn't answer them myself first. So here goes:

1. Mountains or Beaches? Mountains. Born and raised in Colorado. Need I say more?

2. Early Morning or Late Night? Truly? Neither. I’m a middle of the day kind of person.

3. High Heels or Sneakers? Anyone who follows me on Pinterest knows high heels are my own private fetish. Oops! Did I say that out loud?

4. Summer or Winter? Summer. The longer I live, the less I like the cold.

5. Wine or Chocolate? Wine. I’m really not much of a chocolate person, unless it’s made into a martini…

6. Pen or Laptop? Laptop. I could live without one, but it would be ugly.

7. Sports Car or Motorcycle? Sports Car. Or rather, super car. The Mercedes McLaren is my fav, even though they’re out of production.

8. Gold or Silver? Gold. Value aside, I like the color.

9. Appetizer or Dessert? Appetizer. More often than not, I prefer savory or salty, to sweet.

10. Kindle or Paperback? Kindle. Sometimes a paperback, but that’s happening less and less as time goes on.

Life with Lucy #7

It’s Friday. I’m not much of a ‘squee’ girl, but if there’s one thing that makes me happy just by its very existence, it’s Friday. Well, okay, Saturday. And Friday is like Saturday eve. It’s also Lucy’s day here at Fox Tales and she’d like to talk to you about things that make her happy.

The pink squeeky dog goes on lots of trips.

Hello, it’s Lucy time. Do you have things in your life that make you happy? I do. My toys. I love my toys. I carry them around all the time. When I’m not carrying balls, that is. I play with them, and I throw them around. I give them to the nasty cats, but they don’t appreciate the simplicity of my happiness. Mom even lets me take them on car trips!

My dog’s life is good. People could learn from a dog’s life. Do you have toys? Not like yachts, airplanes or race cars, but simple toys. A piece of rope or a stick works too. Get someone to throw it for you. Then run like the wind, all out. Chase it high and low, not worrying about the weather, your boss, or your significant other. I do that with my Mom. She throws the ball or my hedgehog and I run. Simple. Just run. Of course its way more fun to run all out, in circles, around Mom. She laughs. I smile. It’s all good.

Maybe it’s the point in life I’m at, or whatever a therapist would say, but Lucy not only brings me happiness, she’s one of the happiest dogs I’ve ever seen. And it’s not about us, she was that way when we met her. She wags her tail, her body, and you can just see the happiness shining out of her eyes. It’s really made me think about how complicated we make our own life. I’m starting to pay more attention to the little things and how hard I make things. All by myself. Now that I’m aware, it must be time for change.
