Happy Father's Day

I didn't know my dad. Not only didn't I know him, I have no idea who he is, or was. And there was no charming step-father to swoop in and save the day. So I've missed out on a lot of things that girls with fathers take for granted.

However, that being said, I know some awesome dads. Not only are they great dads, they are wonderful men. And I feel very blessed to have them in my life as relatives, friends, and co-workers.

This one’s for you!

Wishing you the best ever, always.

  1. An anonymous rider arrives on a white horse. He dismounts, hitches his horse, and casts a half smoked cigarette to the wind. After a quick adjustment to his eye mask, he approaches Miss Sutton.

‘Don’t be alarmed, Miss Sutton. I ain’t here to rob you. I just happened to be passing through when I heard you say the sweetest, most touching thing I ever heard. Saint I ain’t, but I have got a heart. I never had a daughter of my own, but if I did, I’d be the proudest man on earth if she was just like you. My chest would be busting with pride, and that’s a fact. Well, I was thinking… would you let me be your daddy, just for a day?’

(*Wraps arms around Miss Sutton and gives her a big ol’ daddy hug.*)

‘There, now you’re my special girl.’

(*Gives Miss Sutton a cuddle and plants a big daddy kiss her forehead.*)

‘I got you a little present too. I drank half of it but you’re welcome to the rest.’

(*Gives Sutton a bottle of whiskey.*)

‘Well, I’d better be get along. Your daddy’s got a posse on his tail. You be a good girl now, y’hear? And if anyone from that posse asks who the masked man was, just tell them the truth – that was daddy for a day.’

    (*Smiles and winks*)

  2. 'Why sir, I'd be honored. Thank you for the lovely gift.'

(*takes a sip of whiskey - looks at the label on the bottle*)

    'Wait. Aren't you...'

(*raises hand to eyes for shade. Squints into the sunset as the man rides away*)

'I coulda sworn, well, maybe not.'

(*takes another swig, and looks down at the dog*)

'Didn't he look kinda familiar, Lucy? Hard to tell with that mask on. He sure was nice though. Come on, girl. We got work to do.'

(*walks away with a smile on her face*)
